Here at Hertfordshire Zoo, we are excited to offer 2 new opportunities for an experienced, qualified Building & Maintenance Operative and a Qualified Electrician to join our team.
The successful candidates will have strong and effective communication skills, be self-motivated, and have the ability to motivate others and work well under pressure. You will be enthusiastic, helpful and have a sense of pride in your work and will have a flexible approach to deal with unknown circumstances as and when they occur. The roles are likely to be challenging but will be incredibly interesting and rewarding.
The right people for these jobs must enjoy working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. You will have early start times and work can involve evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. We’d need you to work to a planned work schedule whilst also being responsive and flexible to ensure the effective and safe operation of all aspects of our Zoos operation. The work involves a lot of walking, lifting and bending, and you will often have to wear waterproof and protective clothing.

Seasonal Work available to cover 09.15-18.15, 7 days a week
We currently have opportunities for people to join our Retail Team, serving our customers in our two specialised retail outlets – the Zoo Shop & the Dino-Store.
Our aim is for every customer to have a brilliant experience, every time they visit. As one of our Retail Assistants, you’ll be part of making that happen, whether you’re serving on the till, keeping our shops clean, tidy and well stocked or looking after our customers’ needs in another way.
• Experience preferred, although not essential as full training will be given
• Positions are seasonal, so you will be expected to work during the school holidays and it is essential that you can work at least 1 day each weekend
• 5-hour (09.15-14.15; 11.00-16.00 & 12.30-17.30) and 8-hour (09.15-18.15) shifts available
• Potential for positions to become permanent for the right candidate
• Friendly, courteous and helpful behaviour should come naturally to you and you’ll be expected to work well both as part of a team and independently.
• Good communication skills (attentive listening, verbal communication and eye contact) are essential
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle is desirable (as HZ is not accessible by public transport)

500+ animals that call Hertfordshire Zoo (previously known as Paradise Wildlife Park).
The Events and Community Engagement Officer at Hertfordshire Zoo will play a pivotal role in planning and executing a wide range of events, including large-scale initiatives such as Dinos After Dark, Summer Evenings at the Zoo, fundraising evenings, and animal education nights. This role involves not only event management but also fostering community connections and generating creative ideas to enhance the visitor experience.
Friendly, courteous and helpful behaviour should come naturally to you and you’ll be expected to work both as part of a team and independently. Strong organisational and project management skills are a must. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (attentive listening, verbal & written communication and eye contact) are also essential, as is the willingness to work flexible hours around the needs of the events taking place (weekends, evenings and during school holidays).
You will ideally have a Bachelor’s degree in event management, environmental education, communications, or a related field and must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and with various social media platforms.
